The forecast paints a beautiful picture for race time at this Saturday’s Russell Forest Run, and online registration is open right up until 7am that morning. We’re hoping this change will make it more convenient for hopeful race participants to sign up and join in the fun. Come experience one of the most unique and beautiful race courses in the Southeast, and know that SpringHouse and Kowaliga Restaurant will be open to welcome you for post-race refueling.

Here are some helpful last-minute details for your Russell Forest Run experience.

Online Registration

Online registration is by far the easiest way to sign up. Registration is open until 7am on race day, but register today to be guaranteed a long-sleeve performance shirt. Quantities are limited, and may not be available if you delay registration. Sign up here RussellForestRun.com!

Packet Pickup and Walk-In Registration

Runners can pick up bibs and shirts Friday from 4-6pm and Saturday morning from 6-7am at the Discovery Center at Russell Crossroads. Walk-in registrations are welcome, but we encourage online registration. We cannot guarantee race shirts will be available for walk-in registrants.

Why We Do All of This

Although we love to put on a unique, signature race that gets rave reviews, the Russell Forest Run’s purpose is to raise funds for the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation that provides for the technology needs of students in the Alexander City School System. It’s a worthy cause, and your happy participation has raised tens of thousands of dollars in support of our students.

One Awesome After-Race Party

Aside from a challenging, picturesque course through the Russell Forest, some of our highest marks come to us about our post-race party at The Stables. Participants and spectators enjoy our famous Grits Bar, cold beer, and awards presentations for 10-year age brackets from 0-70+. It’s a really good time.

Refuel at SpringHouse and Kowaliga Restaurant

With a special Saturday opening, SpringHouse will be open for brunch from 10am-2pm at Russell Crossroads. Come refuel at the area’s only James Beard-class dining establishment overlooking the pastures and The Stables. The weather should be gorgeous, and lots of patio seating is also available. Perhaps a Bloody Mary will be in order?

Kowaliga Restaurant will be opening early at 10am to welcome race participants and spectators. Soak in the best dining-with-a-view on Lake Martin. Kowaliga serves a southern comfort menu of seasonal ingredients from the local region. The catfish is shipped straight from Alabama and Mississippi farms. But don’t overlook their famous Catfish Tacos and Conecuh Sausage appetizer, or dive into a juicy ribeye or some Hickory Smoked St. Louis Ribs.

It’s going to be another great race day — our ninth, actually! We hope you’ll join us for the fun. And, if you’d like to help, volunteers are always welcomed. For questions or to volunteer, please contact Robert Gunn, Race Organizer, at [email protected] or 256.397.1019.
