Beautiful course + great cause = no brainer

Let’s run the Russell Forest!

By Robert Gunn, Race Director

I had a chance this past weekend to get out and walk most of the Russell Forest Run 10K course. It had been a couple of years since I had actually taken the time to walk through a part of God’s country, admire the gorgeous scenery—yes, even in winter it is a wonderful place to walk or run—listen to the birds chirp, and hear the small creeks as they murmured nearby. So, what does this have to do with the Russell Forest Run?

The answer is that on Saturday, February 25, you can have that same experience. Yes, you may be moving a little faster than I was, and yes, you may cuss me a little bit when you hit some of the hills on the 10K course, but in the end, it is so worth it. You see, aside from it being an incredibly unique and beautiful course, the Russell Forest Run benefits the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation (ACSEF), and the dollars it generates help provide technology to the schools. No brainer.

On the morning of Saturday, February 25, the cannon will fire at 7:45 to start the 10K run on our USATF certified course (AL10003JD) and will be quickly followed by the 5K at 7:55! Registration is open through February 23rd at the Russell Forest Run website and on Active.com. Either of these runs is suitable for beginners, but the 5K takes it a little easier! Walkers are welcome, but we do ask that you leave the dogs at home!

Then, our post-race party always features, among other food and drink items, our famous grits bar, ice cold beer, a special SpringHouse soup and, back this year, live music from The Bank Walkers. What are you waiting for? Register today to be a part of the 2017 Russell Forest Run. Come hang out with us and support a wonderful cause in the ACSEF!
