20th Annual Charity Poker Run a Huge Success!

Russell Marine teamed up with the Alexander City Lions Club for the 20th year to put on another record-breaking fundraising event. More than $25,000 was raised for local charities as participants made stops at five marinas to draw a card at each hoping to build the Best Hand. After a week of nervously watching the weather forecasts, we caught a break and, although hot (hey, it’s July), the weather was gorgeous. Where else can folks have this much fun on the lake all day and raise money for worthy causes right in our own backyard?

As usual, the participants really dove in with costumes and decorated boats competing for Best Crew. With so many great crews this year, it was tough for the judges, but they managed to carve out the winners. Cash prizes are awarded for the top three finishers.

First Place: Titanic
Second Place: Jurassic Park
Third Place: ‘Merica at Work
Fourth Place: Bae Watch
Fifth Place: Christmas in July

Over the years, this event has raised more than $325,000 for, now, 15 local charities and Alabama Lions Sight at the Callahan Eye Hospital at UAB. Our sincerest thanks go out to all who participated. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
